Chivalry to the hilt?

Okay, I pose this question primarily to the women:

We all know (or have least heard of) the age-old practice of sleeping on the couch when upset with your mate, but today I was told that no matter what the circumstance the MAN should be the one out the door. When pressed the reasons ranged from because it's just the way it's supposed to be (chivalry), to it just shows he cares... Now I ask you, if the WOMAN is the one in the wrong, should the man really still be the one to sleep on the couch? Shouldn't the whole couch thing be based on right/wrong and not a blind gender stereotype which takes effect when couples are upset with one another?

This disturbs me, so please, even if you feel the man should be the one out on his ass, give me an explanation that doesn't leave me - and men in general - totally befuddled and aghast.

THAT statement is a Claire Huxtable phrase, that only stands if you have 2 people in an uncanny and otherworldly relationship, such as the Cosbys. For mere mortals like us; a pipe dream.

Like a voice from the good Lord himself, this conundrum presents itself for my scrutiny.

Dear brother, I ask: Do you deserve to sleep on a couch? Are you not a man of worth? Do you deserve to forego your comfort based on matriarchal brainwashing? You ARE the bed. Without you the bed is simply a cold slab upon which females sleep. Believe in your greatness, regardless of who is at fault. Chivalry is a tainted art; do not fall for ancient, romantic ideals.

viva la revolution.

Did you miss the part where SHE was at fault in the first place...? So she's at fault AND she jumps into another's bed? Arhu... NO COMMENT.

Insecurities eh.

*ponder*

Ah, but really now - would a woman - when faced with the choice of the couch and the couch alone really take it? Or perhaps instead jump to something more spiteful. Like someone else's bed?

Oooh. Maybe deep down and far back some male insecurities pushed this chivalrous act.

Will reply to this, at length, chez moi. The chicks might as well.
