Collecting my thoughts is a difficult thing to accomplish.
Let's try to pick up where I left off, maybe things will come to me.
I left Florida to meet Michelle in New York on the 19th of December, spent a few days at my brother Steve's house, which was really exceptional as we basically had our own little apartment to ourselves. Then we were off on the 22nd to Michelle's aunt in New Jersey. That was also cool, although I have to admit the vibe was not as comfortable as it was when I was there before. Between stupid arguments between parents and children, parents and parents, sibling boyfriends and other siblings, I wanted to run and hide in a corner on more than one occasion. But then again, that's really not that out of the ordinary, that's normal family life as far as I'm concerned, I'd just rather not deal with those sorts of situations on vacation is all. Regardless, the entire family was rather accommodating and didn't make me feel like a leper even when I was responsible for clogging a sink up after drinking heavily the night before (they don't make 'em like they used to). So anyway, Christmas itself was pretty great, I think Michelle and I were in the running to see who could buy the most presents for one another. It's sickening I know, I'm pretty sure we got into double digits...
I can't really express just how good it felt to receive not only presents, but certain calls between Christmas and New Year's, Rossi, Stacy, and Tracey, you guys not only made my day, you helped to make my week. I can't really go into the details without sounding like a wuss, but that meant a lot to me.
That was also long overdue, and I've been kicking myself mentally every day since I've been back.
Anyway, so there were some interesting moments in NJ, I limed and played poker with a bunch of white kids, I learned the trick to making a proper Black & Tan, froze, froze, froze, got to meet some rather interesting characters and experience a bit of how genuine American teenagers spend their time (nothing too surprising here), and froze.
I really enjoyed hanging out with my brother too, even though my stay was really short, he's a really good guy, who I've only recently gotten to know seeing as how he's my half-brother and I only knew he really existed a few years ago. My I got into JFK we had to wait for Michelle's flight to come in, and he took me to a west Indian bar & restaurant to kill the time. Well well, that was a first. There was karaoke, a Ukrainian waitress, and lots of atmosphere, not to mention alcohol. Ah, you have the best conversations while mildly inebriated don't you? ;)
Well anyway, so back to NJ. leaving sucked, not leaving the place, but leaving Michelle, and it was even worse because I had to leave her at her terminal (where she then had more than a few hours to wait alone) to rush to mine. As I said, sucked. You could barely see her eyes for the tears they were drowning in, waiting to come out. Sucked.
And as usual, it's been rough since I've been back, severing the connection to a live human being is a little much to deal with, when all you want to do is be around them. Nights are usually the worst, the lonely bed amplifies your own loneliness, and a sleepless night ensues.
But I've had more than my share to keep me busy, as soon as I got back I went back to work, I even had to do an interactive CD on New Year's eve in NJ, so I guess I never really stopped. I've got so many projects now in production and in pre-production I can't wait for them to all be completed so I can add the next wave of websites to Frostbyte's news section. On top of that I've got internal business shit to deal with, we've got marketing material to print (which looks damn fine if I do say so myself), office space to find, document templates to finalize, along with hosting packages, affiliate pricing, operations and procedures, custom code repository, and we've got to launch our sister site which offers Hosting. Yes, busy would be the word.
I'm also flying to Los Angeles on the 2nd for a meeting, a meeting which could mean really big things, so keep you fingers crossed for me people and I'll fill you in when I get back from it.
Oh yeah, and I've got to move servers in 4 days, vonderful.
Well, personal life, I saw a great many foreign films recently, it's about the only thing I do beside look at the computer screen (and since we cancelled HBO, there ain't much else to look at the television for). I saw Warm Water Under a Red Bridge, which was one of the oddest movies I've ever seen in my life, but the crazy thing is I really enjoyed it. Then I saw The Housekeeper, which was a little depressing, but still engaging, and lastly Murderous Maids, which was nothing like what I expected, although it sure as hell did keep my attention, even though it was in general, a slow movie. I sure as bloody hell wasn't prepared for the sexual relationship which developed between the sisters, although I can't say anything bad about it...
Every time I see anything French I think of Stacy, whose opinion I would love to get on the afore-mentioned films.
Ah yes, I'm certain this has been long, and since my brain has just drawn a blank, and since I'm hungry and stinky, it's time to get some breakfast and take a shower, adios.
